There is a growing recognition that residential history is an important, yet not sufficiently investigated geospatial topic in cancer research. One of the principle reasons why residential history has been largely ignored in epidemiological studies is that these data have been difficult and expensive to obtain. NCI, recognizing that residential history data from commercial vendors is becoming increasingly available, contracted with Westat (contract #HHSN261201500371P) to obtain residential histories from several vendors, develop algorithm and software to reconcile conflicting addresses, and validate these histories against self-report. The motivation for this pilot was to develop standardized processes that researchers can use to obtain residential history for use in epidemiological research.
